I always think of walking as one of the few activities you can do for free - and now you can with this guide!

Walking, Hiking and Outdoor Shops

Avertical World Climbing Centre

7-11 Blinshall St, Dundee DD1 5DF, UK – 01382 201901

Great place to go with the kids climbing. Great set up and friendly staff. If your a beginner getting into climbing it's a great place to start.

Great selection of top rope and lead walls. Also has a cool bouldering area hidden downstairs which has some excellent routes. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

The WorKit Centre

2 Fulton Rd, Dundee DD2 4SW, UK – 0845 180 1233

Great shop for work gear

It's good

Another good one. Walkingworld has huge library of guides with a good selection of walks, of varying lengths and grades, pretty well anywhere in the country. The walks come in an excellent format making them very easy to follow, with photographs to illustrate every important decision point and a proper Ordnance Survey map.

A modist annual subscription gives you unlimited access to all the walks. However you can Pay As Go by downloading indiviual walks..

Camping and Caravaning

Camperdown Country Park

Dundee DD2 4TD, UK – 01382 431818

This is the best park in Dundee. Great for families and children, but also a fantastic park for dog walkers. Just love it.

Great for kids to run around, climbing, walking the dog, golf, or just getting some fresh air only problem is the toilets are not always open

Birkhill Inn

124 Coupar Angus Rd, Birkhill, Dundee DD2 5PG, UK – 01382 581297

This place has the best steak pie by far. Excellent small average sized in that has a nice country feel / atmosphere. It is extremely popular with the local community and once you go you are sure to want to go back. Booking is always advised as it can get very busy especially around tea time and especially on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. High tea is served early tea time and is well worth the money as you get tea toast main course and then a selection of fancy cakes.

Reasonable little place, friendly and casual feel....leaving one relaxed....great waiting staff, cheerful souls willing to offer advice and recommendations....all are welcome and catered for.... The food is average for this type of establishment.... Not sure why there steak pie is famous, on the basis of "famous" i had to give it a try and was left with a feeling of disappointment, where as it was fine and nothing wrong with it; it was no different to any other generic steak pie I've had elsewhere....

Athollbank Guest House

19 Thomson St, Dundee DD1 4LF, UK – 01382 801118

This place is comfortable and very reasonably priced. My wife and I had a very enjoyable short stay. Great location, easy walk to city centre. Lovely walk along riverside. Local restaurants are good and close by. Looking forward to return visit.

Had an enjoyable short break with friends, excellent value for money, with a comfortable room and good cooked breakfast.
